WiAd Server |
PC Running the WiAdServer.exe or RBServer.exe apps | Any server that is running the software is referred to as the WiAd Server. Though it may have different subparts enabled it is still considered a WiAd server. Most WiAdServer's will have enabled both the DNS Server and Ad Parser options, and refer ad displays to a second server for ad insertion. Usually the second server will be off site and can be referred to as an Web Server or an Ad Server. Most simple installations will use the site owners web site as the web server that will display Ads
Web server |
Any Server that can offer up images or HTML pages | In the WiAd.net framework we only consider a server a web server if it can offer up images and HTML pages on port 80 without any restrictions.
Ad Server |
A Server that offers up ad images and pages and has control over the rotation and logging of the Page View counts | WiAdServer does not have an Ad server. built in, it redirects ad request to a remote ad server. Though at times it will resolve an ad image to itself and offer up the ad image if needed
DNS Server |
A Server that resolves DNS queries | WiAd server has a built in DNS server that it uses to determine ad client IP addresses and eligibility for ad insertion
Ad parser |
A WiAdServer that handel's the ad parsing aspects of the WiAd system | WiAd server has a buitlin ad parser as part of the .exe application. In simple cases the WiAd server will handel its own ad parsing. In larger or high volume installations the Ad parser will usually be a series of servers scalable to the volume of ad insertions. An Ad parser runs the WiAd software as normal however usually does not handel the initial DNS query by clients, that is handled by the main series of WiAd servers

WiAd Enabled |
Client PC/Internet Device | The term WiAd Enabled is used to describe or refer to any device that uses a WiAdServer DNS IP number as part of its TCP/IP configuration for DNS servers.
Client |
Individual Device | Just the same as WiAd Enabled but refers to a device/person as a singular item that is on a WiAd system
Client Site |
Individual/Network/Physical Location/Browser | A Client site refers that the Individual/Network/Physical Location is being treated as a special client location where it will have special handling procedures for Ad Insertion, in the WiAd examples we have a client site known as "internet cafe" that will use the WiAd system but only receive a specific set of Ad's or Ad handling In some cases a browser can be its own client site where the browser only becomes the client site as other users on the same network as the browser will be treated as a differenet Client Site or just as simply WiAd Enabled | faq2012 |
Client Site Name Up dater (client) CSNU |
Any protocol/executable/configuration that sends the current IP and Name of the Client site to the WiAdServer | The CSNU sends an coded information sequence to the WiAd servers in its DNS list informing the WiAd server of each DNS Ip address the current IP address of the client site, and in some cases the cookie identification of the browser if a browser happens to be a client site. | faq2012 |
RPAD Type |

.dnr. |
sub domain prepend | When a WTSSoftware resolver encounters ".dnr." in a domain prepend to the domain the server interprets this as "do not resolve", meaning that it will ignore the query and not send a reply back to the host or host DNS server requesting a resolve for the domain, though it may not seem of much use, we use it in our system several places so all DNS servers on a Host network will not receive a reply and always send a request back to what ever domain is postpended to the .dnr. prefix. note that .dnr. may exist at any pre pended location in a domain but never postpended. |
